What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical intervention, the goals of surgery consist to fix aesthetic problems of the nose such as the bone gib, the bone that protrudes from the back of the nose like a hump, deviations to the right or left of all the nose and congenital malformations such as the sequelae of the cleft lip and palate, as well as other genetic factors or acquired by trauma and disease. When looking for a solution to the obstructed nose by excessive tension or deviation of the septum or exclusively nasal septum, we are referring to septoplasty. There are other structures inside the nose, turbinates and nasal valves or the inflamed mucosa itself among others, whose congenital or acquired alterations can contribute or be the cause of the obstruction. Rhinoplasty and septoplasty can be performed in most cases at the same operative act. Surgery that includes both procedures is called septorhinoplasty or functional rhinoplasty.
